Getting started
What does I Don’t Like This Website do?+
It is a Chrome extension that lets you mark websites you dislike, remember why you marked them, and see a reminder when you return.
Is the Chrome extension free?+
Yes. You can install and use the extension without paying or creating an account. Optional support links are separate from the core features.
How do I install it?+
Select Add to Chrome on this page to open the official Chrome Web Store listing. Then choose Add to Chrome in the store and confirm the installation.
How do I mark a website I dislike?+
Visit the website, open the extension from your Chrome toolbar, and select “I don’t like this website.” It will be added to your list.
Does the extension decide which websites are bad?+
No. You choose which sites go on your list. The extension remembers your choices rather than rating websites for you.
Does it block websites or prevent me from opening them?+
No. It shows reminders for sites you marked. You can dismiss a warning and continue browsing; stronger warnings also include a Leave website option.
Reminders and warning styles
When will a website reminder appear?+
When you visit a website hostname on your disliked list, the extension can show a reminder according to your chosen frequency setting.
What are the three reminder styles?+
Small banner shows a discreet notice, Strong warning shows a more prominent message, and Very strong warning blurs the page behind a centered alert.
Can I change how often reminders appear?+
Yes. In Settings, select Every visit or Once per day. The once-per-day option limits reminders for each marked website to roughly once every 24 hours.
Can I close a reminder without removing the website?+
Yes. Close the reminder to keep browsing. The website stays on your disliked list unless you explicitly remove it.
Can I leave the website straight from the warning?+
Yes. Strong and Very strong warnings include a Leave website button. The Small banner is designed to be less intrusive.
Will my saved reason or note appear in the reminder?+
Yes. When you have saved a reason or note, the reminder can show that context so you remember why you marked the website.
How do I stop reminders for one particular website?+
Remove that website from your disliked list using the popup or your saved-site list. You can add it again later.
Why am I not seeing a reminder every time?+
Check that the website is still on your list and that your reminder frequency is set to Every visit. Once per day deliberately suppresses repeat reminders for a period.
Notes, lists, and backups
Do I have to write a reason when I dislike a site?+
No. A single click is enough to mark a website. Adding a reason or personal note is optional.
How can I add a note about a website?+
After marking a site, enable the note option in the extension popup, choose a reason if you wish, write your note, and save it.
Can I add or edit notes later?+
Yes. Open the marked website in the extension, or go to your disliked websites list and use the Note action beside an entry.
How do I see all the websites I marked?+
Open the extension and choose View disliked websites. Your list includes saved sites and the available notes or reasons.
Can I search through my saved websites?+
Yes. Use the search field in your disliked websites list to find entries by website, saved reason, or note.
How do I remove one website?+
Open that website in the extension and toggle its disliked status off, or select Remove beside the entry in your list.
Can I clear my entire disliked websites list?+
Yes. The list view includes a Clear all option with a confirmation step. Export a backup first if you might want those entries later.
Can I export a backup?+
Yes. Export downloads a plain-text (.txt) file containing website names and any written notes. It does not include your reminder settings or preset reasons.
Can I import my websites into the extension?+
Yes. Import accepts a .txt file with a website on each line. Optionally, you can include a note after the site name separated by a tab.
Privacy, compatibility, and help
Where are my websites, notes, and preferences stored?+
They are saved in Chrome’s local extension storage on your browser. The extension does not require a user account for these features.
Do I need to sign up or log in?+
No. You can start marking websites and using reminders without creating an account.
Will my list automatically sync between computers?+
No automatic cross-device sync is built into this version. To move your websites, export your list as a .txt file and import it on the other computer.
Why can’t I mark certain Chrome pages?+
The extension works with normal HTTP and HTTPS websites. Chrome internal pages, such as chrome://settings, and some other protected pages cannot be marked.
Where do I change the warning style and reminder frequency?+
Open the extension and select its Settings gear. You can choose the warning style and how often reminders are shown.
Why does Chrome ask for website access?+
The extension needs access to website hostnames to recognize sites on your list and place reminders on those pages. It also uses browser storage to save your choices.
How do I uninstall it?+
Open Chrome’s Extensions page, find I Don’t Like This Website, and select Remove. You can also manage extensions through the Chrome toolbar.
